Since the average new car purchase in the US is right at $32k, I would love to know what you would purchase for the same price as a brand new 2016 Nissan Quest SV. No rules tonight. You don’t need to come near the budget cap. You can even add to your existing garage if you want. Simple curiosity on my end. Let’s see what you got and as always, enjoy yo’selves!

If I could find a decent enough deal, I’d bet that an exhaust/tune/clutch/maybe wheels would put it right around $32k

2016.5 Mazda CX-5 Grand Touring (AWD) with the Tech Package, MSRP $31,925. One of the leading contenders to get my dieselgate dollars to replace my JSW TDI.

Since there’s no rules, here are the three possible routes I’d go:
1. Buy a new BRZ to become my daily. I’ve already been thinking about picking a used one up. I love my Outback and intend to hold onto her, but she’s a thirsty girly. I’d daily the BRZ and use the Outback for road trips and winters.
2. Wait a year or two and pounce on a CPO Focus RS
3. FA20T swap the Outback (because no rules). Engine and six speed out of the current WRX, paint it World Rally Blue if there’s enough left over.

Hmmm 86 or Miata...
Or maybe Fiata...
A new Colorado could be useful...
The new camaro is nice....
Or a WRX with some mod money....
I’ll be in my bunk.

Of course you give a challenge with no restrictions other than the price the same night that my Wi-Fi goes down. I can’t even begin to fully exploit this Challenge on my phone.

Well, the Globe and Mail says that the average lease is $490 a month, or $570 a month for financing in Canada . With that, well...
I’ll take a 2017 Fusion Sport for $480 a month at 2.49% for 60 months at full price, no money down. Could possibly be cheaper with some negotiation. Seems like a sweet deal for me! Although odds are I’d probably end up going for something cheaper and more reasonable, like a Mazda 3 Sport GT for $376 a month for 48 months. Both prices before taxes.

I’d want a WRX - where I am this would be a capable car all year round. I don’t really like the fact that it’s really large for a WRX (I really liked those older, smaller coupes that they had back in the day) but given that I’m going on longer trips with others more often, the larger size may not be such a bad thing.

Something beige.
(In person this color is so awesome it hurts. Toyota’s configurator makes it look metallic. It is not metallic...)

Keep my S10 as a “beater” because it’s not even close to having the age/mileage to be a hindrance.
Buy a Cruze LT RS for $26k, make daily driver.
Use remaining $6k to buy back my M3 from the guy who bought it at a profit to him. Have my baby back as a weekend/tinker toy.

Diverging from Citroen for a moment:
or this
Spend the extra $20k on a baja conversion
Help, I’m being eaten alive by TheSamba
Bad ideas could be made for $32k
As good as it gets, hopefully for less than $12k
Back to Citroen:
or this:
I couldn’t have all of these, only a combination of two or three.

Starting off with a new 3 hatch for a DD. Grey, manual, a few options but not too many. Then I'd head off to Japan to find a decent, freshly importable 4th gen Prelude with an H22, LSD, 2WS, sunroof delete, and no other options. I'd spend the rest of the budget on go-fast mods for the Prelude.

First, I’d spend 12k to finish/fix my AE86 drift car (Project Riceball), then search for a nice trailer and a beater pickup to tow my fun cars on said trailer. Keep the Prelude autocross/track car as-is, fix the a/c and busted window in my DD Integra. Profit.

First of we’ve got a car most Americas can afford. A 1995 Del Sol, with 238,000 miles, it has just one rust hole, and the seller says it does not burn, or leak oil! 1,100 dollars.

Then a brown 04 LS430, with just 95,000 miles, and it looks minty fresh. 12,500

this BLLLACK 1987 Chrysler Conquest! 3,850

2005 F-350, diesel, manual, crew cab, 4x4. 13,995

Honestly, if you are/were considering a BRZ I’d say go for it now. The older models can be negotiated down quite a lot with the new refreshes coming out and the fact that barely any folks in the US are buying them.

BMWs, Jags, Evos, Porsches and GT-Rs are in this price range. Or I could be alternative and get an Aston, Holden or Caterham.
So many good options, so hard to choose.
Either way, I’d spend the leftover money on an Avantime.
